DESCRIZIONE:
HISTORY
A few kilometres from a town of medieval origins, in the heart of Crete Senesi, we catch sight of this jewel of rare charme and beauty, whose origins date back, according to tradition, to the Age of Saint Benedict.
Some papal bulls confirm that the Monastery was built around 1031. From the second part of XIV Century the Abbazia began to depopulate and only two monks remained.
Pope Gregorio XI decided to convert the Convent into a prior house of the Monastery of Monte Uliveto Maggiore, where are still conserved some important documents regarding life in the Abbadia.
In 1700 the complex was renovated, but a few years later it was annexed to the Pieve of San Giovanni a Vescona.
The chapel of Saint Mary, Giacomo and Cristofero used to host the famous pale of Ambrogio Lorenzetti, depicting the Saint Michele Arcangelo killing the dragon, a wooden altar and an old crucifix. These works of art are now conserved at the museum of Asciano.
RESTORATION
The church has been restored externally and in the roof as well as the bell tower.
Many years of attentive and scrupulous work have brought back the property to its old splendour: the bell tower and the Romanic church, but also the cloister with its two arcades of porch and the two wells. The lounges and the cells have been restored and made suitable to offer the maximum comfort without changing the original structure.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION

One is bigger and has a particular door-lock shape, collects rainwater from the roof and through complicated pipelines, provided water to the small pond. The second, older than this one,
is 20 metres deep and finishes on a layer of water underground.
The elegant canonica with an independent apartments is reached through the courtyard . The unit is composed by: two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an independent kitchen and a living room.
