DESCRIZIONE:
After months of emails going back and forth between England and Italy we finally decided to 'get it out of our system'. We first met Riccardo and Marta in May 2003 and arranged to view a selection of properties over a couple of days. They had arranged for us to stay in a wonderful agriturism (farm self-catering) in the hills that really captured the essence of Tuscany. This is the fantastic and reassuring aspect of their approach: you are treated more as a family guest than a business client. We visited several times over the following months, and on one occasion met Joanna and Cesare, who run an excellent self-catering business that is a real home from home (they also speak English). Having little command of Italian (actually none), was not a problem. Riccardo took us to beautiful houses and described them in fluent English that was both technically knowledgeable but also emotionally descriptive of an area that he clearly loves. Both Riccardo and Marta instinctively knew what we were looking for and offered to show us houses that we had not chosen off the website. Through this understanding of our needs we discovered a lovely house in the idyllic setting of Lama village, just 1km from the birthplace of Michelangelo. Throughout the entire time we were with Riccardo and Marta we felt no pressure to buy, it was more like two good friends showing us around their neighbourhood.
Riccardo has vision when he sees a building. Our house had a very plain interior with the usual box shaped rooms, a corridor and a huge unused roofspace. Within minutes Riccardo had us visualising the walls being removed, open plan living area, mezzanine balcony, massive chestnut roof beams and new patio doors leading into the spacious garden. His enthusiasm was infectious. We bought the house. The great thing about the Romolinis is that the selling of the house was not the end of our relationship. They were able to help us with a vast range of services, including: paying local taxes, utilities connections and opening a bank account. This 'after sales' service is something we would recommend all buyers choose to use. One great benefit is their local knowledge of people who can help. They knew an excellent geometra, Antonio, to oversee the building works and an insurance agent, Katia, to insure the house. Marta is always cheerful, and will patiently explain, in superb English, the complexities of Italian home buying. She is also a very strong person who will accept only the very highest standards from anybody with whom she is dealing. We were always very confident that if Marta said she would sort something out, then it would be sorted out. When we visited with our children, they instantly loved Marta, Riccardo and their son Danilo. They have spent many happy hours splashing in rivers and eating perfect pasta.
We started as email business contacts and we now invite them to family celebrations when we are in Lama. We are proud to call Riccardo, Marta and Danilo our friends.
