DESCRIZIONE:
A cinquecento metri dal centro storico di Taormina, la villa Nelson sorge su di una collina che si affaccia sul meraviglioso golfo di Naxos.
Costruita intorno al 1780 dall’Ammiraglio Oracle Nelson, la casa rimase di proprietà della famiglia inglese fino al 1947 anno in cui Lord Arthur Herbert Rovland Nelson Bridport la vendette al conte Gaetano Marzotto.
La villa si sviluppa su tre elevazioni, per uan superficie di circa 350 mq ciascuna. Il primo piano, di rappresentanza, permette l’accesso dalla via Pirandello, strada che conduce al centro storico di Taormina.
È composto da un ampio corridoio che conduce ai saloni, tutti prospicienti il mare, una zona notte con entrata indipendente.
Anche nel secondo piano troviamo una zona giorno con accesso al parco, sala da thè, sala conversazione, sala da pranzo: ogni vano letto è servito da bagno con vasca e armadi a muro.
Il terzo piano, adibito essenzialmente ai servizi ed alla cucina si affaccia sulla corte interna;
qui lo stile combina la tradizione siciliana, visibilmente concessa dalla disposizione degli ambienti e dalla scelta dell’arredamento, alla rigida impronta anglosassone, pur intuibile, sebbene maggiormente percepita nei due piani superiori dove anche l’arredamento d’epoca, tutto in stile, si amalgama perfettamente ai molteplici inserti settecenteschi – come camini, sedili, nicchie, etc. – che lo stesso Nelson era solito riportare dalle sue numerose conquiste e che furono inglobati nella costruzione. Notevoli i pezzi d’autore risalenti a varie epoche, conservati antecedentemente nei più importanti musei d’Europa.
Il parco che ha una superficie di circa 50.000 mq si estende per tutta la sua lunghezza sul mare, seppur scosceso e in pendenza presenta una folta vegetazione di natura tropicale – notevole il lungo viale di palme e cocos pregiati – e numerosi arbusti di specie locali:
mandorli, ulivi, oleandri, fico d’India, piante grasse e arbusti secolari di stimato valore.
In questa meravigliosa cornice naturale affiorano innumerevoli testimonianze storicoartistiche delle antiche civiltà romana e greca: la più grande tomba romana presente in Sicilia risalente al terzo secolo d.C., un tempio ellenico dedicato al culto del Dio Pan con nicchie ed intarsi crittografici raffiguranti momenti della celebrazione dei riti pagani, una cappella protestante con colonne corinzie, varie statue in bronzo raffiguranti divinità, colonne, capitelli, incisioni, pezzi d’artigianato. La villa ha acquisito nel tempo grande fama ed importanza, non solo a livello artistico: il re Giorgio e la regina Mary con il principe e la principessa sono stati ospiti della famiglia Nelson nel 1925; in tempi più recenti la principessa Margaret è stata accolta ed ospitata dai signori Labili così come molti altri reali e nobili di tutto il mondo, tra i quali lo Scià di Persia, hanno visitato villa Falconara prendendo parte ai numerosi ricevimenti che vi si svolgevano.
All’interno della casa sono state girate numerose scene di film, come il Padrino, molto noti a livello internazionale e, a tutt’oggi, innumerevoli sono le richieste di utilizzo degli ambienti interni ed esterni per happening, meeting, cerimonie e manifestazioni in genere.

Situated only five hundred meters from the historical center of Taormina, “The Villa Nelson" sits on a hill overlooking the beautiful gulf of Naxos. Built circa 1780 by the late Admiral Horacio Nelson the house remained in the ownership of the English family until 1947 when Lord Arthur Herbert Roland Nelson Bridport sold the villa to an important Italian family.

The villa is built on three elevations, each approximately 350 m2 (1770sqf). The entrance to the villa is from the street and allows access to the first floor. The first floor gives access via a hallway to the salon/lounge, a very large balcony with beautiful views overlooking the sea and to the master bedroom room, which has a separate entrance. This floor also offers 3 guest bedrooms en suite. On the second floor there is a day room with access to the park, reception room, living room and dining room. This floor also offers an additional 4 guest bedrooms en suite with built in wall closets.

The third floor, houses the servants quarters and the kitchen and faces the inside courtyard; Here the style combines Sicilian tradition, visible by the disposition of the environments and by the choice of furnishings. The rigid Anglo-Saxon impression is also visible although mostly expressed in the two lower floors where the notable furnishing of the period perfectly blend with the manifold eighteenth-century inserts, such as fireplaces, seats, niches etc obtained by Nelson from his numerous conquests and are apparent in the construction of the building.

The notable pieces of varied art have previously been displayed in many of the most important museums in Europe.The parkland covers a surface of around 50.000 m2 (12.5acres) and extends for all of its length along the coastline. The steep incline from the sea to the property is covered in a thick vegetation of a notable tropical nature including a long avenue of palms and coco trees with numerous examples of local plant life, almond trees, olive, oleanders, fig trees of India, cried fat and secular bushes of great value.

In this marvelous natural habitat innumerable historical and artistic testimonies of the ancient Roman and Greek civilizations appear on the surface: The biggest Roman grave present in Sicily estimated to be of the third century B.C. A Hellenic temple devoted to the cult of the God Pan with niches and inlays highlighting the moments of the celebration of the pagan rites, a Protestant chapel with colonial inlays, varied bronze statues of refined divinity, columns and other pieces of fine craftsmanship are present this vast garden.

In more recent times, a swimming pool of around 15 x 8 m some 2,5 m of depth has been constructed adjacent to the house. The garden boasts a fountain with bronze statues and three tubs set in a paved terrace, ideal for parties and receptions. The access to the garden is via an external entrance that flows with a spectacular stairway built in ancient lava stone. In more recent times the HRH Princess Margaret has been welcomed and entertained by the present family as have many other Royals from around the world including the King of Persia and many other royal dignitaries. The house is also famous for the many scenes shot here during the making of the globally acclaimed film “The Godfather”
