Fermo
FERMO: VILLAS AND APARTMENTS FOR SALE
Fermo is a medieval center of the Marche that dates back to pre-Roman times. The name of the city (Firmum Picenum) would seem to derive from the Latin firmus, meaning "faithful", as the city showed an unshakable loyalty to Rome in both the Punic wars against Carthage. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the city passed first to the Longobards and then to the Franks who made it the point of reference for the so-called Marca Fermana. From the 12th century the city became a free municipality and passed from hand to hand by various lordships.
Today the city is a blaze of churches and palaces built by the various lords who ruled the city. Of particular interest, however, is the complex of Roman cisterns, a huge 2,000-square-meter hypogeum structure built at the time to collect water from distributions in the city.
Romolini Immobiliare offers a selection of farmhouses, historic villas and apartments for sale in the historic center of Fermo or nearby, in the renowned centers of Porto Sant'Elpidio, Montegranaro and Porto San Giorgio.
