San Gimignano

A few kilometers from the medieval town of San Gimignano, in the heart of the Chianti Senese and close to the Castelvecchio Natural Reserve, this prestigious property (over 2,600 m²) is currently used as a boutique hotel with 55 bedrooms and four independent apartments. DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDINGS

The hotel (2,350 m² – 25,286 ft², 55 bedrooms and 61 bathrooms) is a large building structured around a central courtyard that recalls in every way the appearance of old Tuscan farms. The rooms are all furnished in a unique style and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. In addition to the bedrooms, the building includes large common areas such as the reception, a fine restaurant with professional kitchen, lounge bar, and a panoramic veranda overlooking the park.

A stone farmhouse (293 m² – 3,153 ft², 8 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms), located not far from the hotel, on the other hand, houses four independent apartments, ideal for those who want more privacy or extended stays:

In addition to this, there are the olive grove (9.1 ha for a yearly production of about 3,000 kg of oil) and large portions of arable land (110.9 ha) that enjoy excellent exposure: these hilly lands, without excessive slopes, are very suitable for planting new vines and/or olive trees or for breeding horses. The woods (27.0 ha) lie mainly in the southern part of the property and provide excellent privacy and tranquility for guests.

On the hills of SanGimignano, in the Chianti Colli Senesi area, 318.2 ha wine farm with 83.4 ha vineyard and stately villa for sale. DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDINGS

The manorial villa (1,208 m² – 12,998 ft², 13 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms) is a large mansion structured on three floors. The building needs restoration and modernization to be enjoyed to its full potential.

HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY

The property, located not far from San Gimignano, is first mentioned in documents dating back to the beginning of the 14th century: the history of the complex is linked to the nearby villa, once property of a noble Tuscan family. The building at the heart of the property was originally built as a watchtower.

The whole podere was bought by another rich Florentine family in 1410 and in their hands remained until a series of bad financial decisions forced the family to alienate a good part of their belongings to the Archbishop of Pisa.

In 1867, the wedding of one of the archbishop’s heir with a member of the Savoy family brought the villa into the hands of the royal family. Savoy kept possession of the villa until 1946 (when they were exiled after the results of the Italian Referendum) and after that the building ended up in the hands of a countess.

At the end of the 1990s the villa, after decades of neglect, was bought by current owners who, with a carefully-carried-out renovation, brought the buildings back to their original glory.
